Here’s some tips for shooting portraits, that I’ve picked up here and there, from Cedric, Chris Ling. Of course, Chris is a wedding photographer, while Cedric shoots fashion, so do take what I write with a pinch of salt… and not all the ideas can be used at the same time ! … I’ll further elaborate the points with images when i get home.

Composition Tips.
1) Break the frame. This was the first think that Cedric taught us. If the model looks too comfortable, something is wrong. Contort, Distort, whatever … just get the model to pose in a way that the lines, curves in the picture are unusual.

2) Start photos from the corner. By placing people in the corner of the image, it looks more aesthetically pleasing. Tip from Chris ling.

3) Use intersecting lines. Ok… everyone would know this. But combine this with point 1 and/or 2, and it gets really difficult. You can use the lines to frame the pictures as well.

Misc. Tips
- Its easy to take a picture that tells a story. Try for those which tell 2.
- Use everything you have to compose the picture. Everyone looks at the background, but make images with foreground as well.

anyway, I’m just sharing some tips i picked up, as I’m still practicing these stuff myself too.
