Just 1 hour ago, I was playing with my almost 2 year old niece. She’s learning how to talk now, and slowly expanding her vocabulary. Like every other kid, they learn by imitation, and pickup up words from what we adults say. Of course, her pronunciation is not too accurate, but I guess thats not a big issue. It seems that my sister would rather amber grow up with a more relaxed childhood that starting to stress the little devil to learn.
Anyway, its just one of the regular days, where I’ll just go home, reach the door, and as usual, she’ll see me and run away in mock fright while giggling as she runs, saying in cantonese “mm oi kou fu” (dun want uncle). Its a routine that she has, and its very amusing.
Anyway, her birthday is coming up, so my sis prompted me to ask Amber what she wanted for her birthday…
“Amber … what u want kou fu to buy for u ?”
” … ”
” your birthday coming soon you know ?”
” … bicycle !”
*hrmm … thats a new one. She has no idea what a bicycle is*
“huh ?”
“bi – sicker”
“oorrrhhh … buy stickers … $#@%$@%$@#%”…
*try again*
“ok .. what u want kou fu to buy for u ?”
“buy handphone !”
yikes… where did that come from…
*try again*
“what you want kou fu to buy for u ?”
“cheat-cheat (pacifier)”
*phew*
After dinner
“what you want kou fu to buy for u ?”
“bicycle * again?!?!?! *”
sister: “what colour one”
“pink ! … pink bicycle”
So here’s amber’s birthday wishlist
Stickers
Handphone
Pacifier
Pink Bicycle
I think my sis is secretly teaching her how to say more words, like cake, and car
