Yesterday

I realised that I’m terrible at giving my blog entry titles. I just couldn’t make up my mind whether to call it “Yesterday” or “the-day-of-the-photographer-sg-scavenger-hunt-where-we-ran-around-
like-mad-followed-by-kenna-activate-by-unit-silent-mobilisation day”. You guys (yes, all 2 of you who actually read my blog) know what I mean.

Anyway, Yesterday was the day where photographer.sg had their scavenger hunt. Lawrence asked me to sign up, and then happily went to HK. *shrug* oh well. The event registration was at 9, and it ended at 12.30. The idea was to take photos of the required tasks to the 9 questions on the checklist. The whole process, however, involved a lot of running, perspiring and dumb jokes, with roy nearly dying (from us making him run). Too much rushing around that I didn’t have time to take any shots with my lomo. But hey, it was fun and I think we came in 4th or 5th.
I mean, as long as we’re not 2nd, or last, its fine with me.

Somehow, it is a bit amusing… People will go up to the 2nd placed team and say … “oh, you’re second, what a waste man, a bit more effortand you would be first” … sure, rub it in, thanks a lot. I don’t need the reminder that I nearly won *bleah* a mid rank is good. No one ever comes up and say … “you’re 5th! a lot more effort and you could be 1st”

Being last is worse. Its not that fact that you lost. Its the fact that THINK everyone looks at you suspiciously and labels you as losers in their head. I admit that I don’t really give a damn, but its a subconscious / inferiority complex thing. Its kinda like a mind game you play with yourself.

Yesterday also marked the first silent mobilisation I have since I became a NSman (aka reservist, or in singlish ‘lee-zer-vit’). This recall was a simple SAFO exercise. I had rush home and dig out all my gear and uniforms, only to reach camp, sign and f*** off. On a side note, I think those that reported after 5pm were subject to a full pack inspection. For someone who’s full pack is non-existant, I’m glad I managed to get back early.

ok … back to reading lonely planet
